Match the fix to the failure before changing the rest of your PC. A missing Campaign button needs a different response from a failed security check, and neither calls for an all-Low graphics preset. Start with the symptom below, apply the relevant supported step, then try the game again.

This guide reflects October 22, 2026, while Campaign and DMZ early access are underway, ahead of the October 23 full launch.

MW4 crashing or not launching on PC

Update the game before chasing a workaround for an older build. The launch patch notes (opens in a new tab) list October 20 crash fixes, including the door breach in Breaking New Ground. An October 21 fix addresses PC performance while holding a Heartbeat Sensor with a weapon equipped. Those are useful matches for those particular failures, rather than evidence that every crash or hitch has been resolved.

For a crash that persists, restart the PC and review Activision’s current PC requirements and recommended GPU drivers (opens in a new tab). Use the MW4 list rather than a driver number copied from an older Call of Duty guide. The launch storage requirement is an SSD with 115 GB available; mandatory updates can require additional space. That figure isn’t a fixed installed size.

Next, close optional overlays, recording software and input remappers, then retry. Activision identifies these applications as possible boot or gameplay conflicts. Keep security software and anti-cheat protections enabled.

Verify MW4 files on Steam

Steam supports file verification for crashes and missing textures or content. Restart the PC, open Steam, then:

  1. Right-click the game’s entry in Library and choose Properties.
  2. Open Installed Files.
  3. Select Verify integrity of game files and let it finish.

Use Valve’s verification instructions (opens in a new tab) if you need the current interface reference. Valve notes that some files failing verification can be normal; a warning by itself doesn’t diagnose the crash.

If the crash returns, keep the exact error and the point where it happens. “Closes when breaching this door” gives a report more direction than “MW4 doesn’t work.” Avoid stacking unrelated changes between attempts: once you’ve changed drivers, files, settings and firmware together, you have made the result much harder to explain.

No Campaign or DMZ launch button on Xbox PC

Activision lists missing Campaign or DMZ launch buttons in COD Home for Xbox on PC as under investigation. Its known-issues page (opens in a new tab) recommends two checks:

  • Confirm Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 – Content Pack 1 is installed before launching.
  • Check Microsoft Store device management to make sure the account hasn’t exceeded its 10-device limit.

Confirm Content Pack 1 before starting another large reinstall; having the game in your library doesn’t establish that the required pack is installed. Activision offers these checks while the issue remains under investigation, so they aren’t guaranteed fixes. If both checks pass and the button remains absent, report the missing Xbox PC launch button and include those results.

MW4 TPM, Secure Boot and attestation errors

MW4 requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for online modes. Start with the latest Secure Attestation Wizard linked from Activision’s TPM and Secure Boot FAQ (opens in a new tab). Its result is more useful than guessing from a generic Windows TPM-ready message, which doesn’t establish that every Call of Duty security check passes.

The wording matters here. The Wizard’s BIOS Firmware Update Required advisory says the firmware meets minimum security requirements, but an update is recommended and may become required in the future. Despite the alarming heading, that specific advisory differs from an actual failed-attestation or incompatible-firmware result. Read the explanation underneath before treating it as a present online block.

Read the result first

What does the security check say?

Use the latest Secure Attestation Wizard from Activision’s official FAQ (opens in a new tab). Match its wording below. This guide does not check your PC.

Choose an exact match, or open any result below. No result is assumed.

TPM or Secure Boot status

MW4 requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for online modes. For read-only checks, press Windows + R and run tpm.msc; read Status and TPM Manufacturer Information. Specification Version and Manufacturer Version are different fields. Run msinfo32 to read BIOS mode and Secure Boot status.

“Compatible TPM cannot be found” can mean the feature is disabled or unsupported. It does not identify a firmware file to install. A TPM-ready message alone does not establish that every Call of Duty security check passes. Use the official Wizard for the specific failed check.

TCG Event Log Failed

Activision’s next step for this exact message is to restart the computer and apply the latest Windows update. Then rerun the official diagnostic. This message is not a reason to clear the TPM.

CODBrokerInstaller.exe authorization declined

If the official game reports this error and no UAC prompt appears, search Start for change user account control settings. Set notifications to the default option or Always notify, apply the change and restart the game; reboot Windows if required.

Keep UAC enabled. Inspect the genuine game’s prompt before approving it. Do not approve an unrelated downloaded executable just because its filename matches.

Failed attestation / firmware or configuration failure

Follow the official result and support instructions for your exact motherboard or PC model. Incorrect UEFI/BIOS changes can stop Windows from booting. If the required change is unfamiliar, ask the manufacturer for help rather than copying another board’s settings.

On a BitLocker-protected PC, confirm access to recovery information before firmware or TPM changes. Some non-Windows firmware changes require suspending protection and resuming it afterward. Follow the applicable Microsoft BitLocker guidance (opens in a new tab) and manufacturer instructions. Suspension is different from decrypting the drive; ordinary Windows updates do not call for disabling encryption.

BIOS Firmware Update Required advisory

Read the explanation under the heading. This specific Wizard advisory says the firmware meets minimum security requirements, but an update is recommended and may become required in the future. It differs from an actual failed-attestation result; it does not establish that every other check passes.

If you choose to update firmware, use instructions for your exact PC or motherboard. Incorrect changes can prevent Windows from booting. On a BitLocker-protected PC, confirm access to recovery information first and follow Microsoft and manufacturer instructions for any required suspension and resumption of protection.

Blurry or low-detail textures in MW4

A soft overall picture and missing surface detail can look similar while pointing to different next steps. Blurry output alone doesn’t prove texture streaming is broken. If the game runs but the picture looks soft, use our MW4 PC settings guide (opens in a new tab) to review output resolution and reconstruction before assuming downloaded texture data is missing.

For missing textures or content on Steam, run the file verification procedure above. Then inspect the streaming option if your MW4 build exposes it. Activision’s general Call of Duty content guidance describes this tradeoff:

Option, if available in your MW4 buildWhat Activision’s general guidance says
OptimizedHigher-fidelity content with increased internet bandwidth usage
MinimalReduced graphical quality with lower internet bandwidth usage

If you’re using Minimal, reduced detail may reflect that choice. If data use or connection capacity is the priority, Minimal has a reason to stay selected. Choosing Optimized trades more bandwidth for fidelity; it doesn’t guarantee that a persistent texture fault will disappear. Neither option is a supported universal FPS or crash fix.

Skip modified-install texture recipes and replacement executables. They don’t establish a repair for a supported retail installation. File verification and the options actually present in your build give you a clearer starting point without importing another installation’s assumptions.

Connection errors and DMZ-specific bugs

For connection failures, check Activision’s online service status (opens in a new tab) before editing the PC. An alert for your platform can explain why local changes aren’t helping. If services show no alert, try wired Ethernet where possible and pause competing downloads or streams before retesting. These are connection checks; they don’t diagnose low local FPS.

DMZ also has a specific Operator Prestige issue after requirements are met. Activision’s listed workaround is to equip Rare weapons that have only ever had three attachment slots. Taking an attachment off a weapon that had four or more slots isn’t the same workaround. The known-issues page remains the place to check its investigation status.

When MW4 still fails

Give support the exact failure and the steps that led to it. The optional builder below formats those details for a crash or bug report; review the text before copying it.

Keep the useful details

Prepare your MW4 support report

Use the PC Crash Report or Bug Report destinations on Activision’s known-issues page (opens in a new tab). This tool formats your notes locally; it sends and saves nothing.

Open the optional report builder

Steam, Xbox PC or Battle.net; game build if known

Copy the message, or say that the game closes without one

Launch, loading, Campaign or DMZ; exact action and whether it repeats

CPU, GPU and graphics driver version; include Windows version if known

List each change and what happened on the next attempt

Without JavaScript, edit the complete report template below manually. The fields will not update it automatically.

Missing fields stay “Not supplied.” Changing a field rebuilds the report and replaces direct edits. Remove personal information before sharing. These notes do not diagnose the failure.

No details supplied. Fill in what you know.

Once the game launches reliably, move on to the settings guide for picture quality and performance. Keep the successful troubleshooting changes separate from optional tuning so the next update doesn’t leave you wondering which of twenty tweaks was necessary.

Frequently asked questions

How do I fix Modern Warfare 4 crashing on PC?

Install the current game update, restart, check Activision’s recommended GPU drivers and try closing optional overlays, recording tools and input remappers. On Steam, use Properties, Installed Files, Verify integrity of game files. These are troubleshooting steps; a crash code alone does not establish the cause or guarantee a repair.

Does MW4 require TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot?

Yes. Activision requires both for MW4 online modes. Use its latest Secure Attestation Wizard to identify the failed check. The specific BIOS Firmware Update Required advisory says minimum security requirements are met and an update is recommended; it differs from an actual failed-attestation result.

How do I fix TCG Event Log Failed in MW4?

For this exact message, Activision directs players to restart the computer and apply the latest Windows update. Run the official diagnostic again afterward. This message is not a reason to clear the TPM.

Why is there no Campaign or DMZ launch button on Xbox PC?

Activision lists this as under investigation as of October 22, 2026. Its tips are to confirm Modern Warfare 4 Content Pack 1 is installed and check that the Microsoft Store account has not exceeded its 10-device limit. These checks are not a guaranteed repair.

How do I fix blurry or low-detail textures in MW4?

On Steam, verify installed files if textures or content appear missing. If your MW4 build exposes Optimized and Minimal streaming options, Activision’s general Call of Duty guidance describes Optimized as higher fidelity with more bandwidth and Minimal as reduced quality with less bandwidth. A blurry picture alone does not prove a streaming fault.
