Far Cry 3 drops you onto a tropical island full of pirates, predators, and explosive freedom, then lets you solve problems with stealth, gunfire, or pure improvisation. It remains one of Ubisoft's most readable open-world shooters thanks to its clear objectives and memorable villain energy.

The island setting matters as much as the gunplay, because so much of its identity comes from wandering into danger by accident and letting the world create stories for you. It is also one of the entries where the villain, the tropical mood, and the sense of stepping into lawless territory all line up cleanly enough to make the whole package stick in memory.
