Outlast 2 is a first-person horror game that throws you into rural nightmare territory full of cult imagery, religious mania, and helpless running. The camcorder view turns every dark cornfield and school hallway into a test of nerve.

Outlast 2 doubles down on helplessness, using darkness, pursuit, and disorienting imagery to create fear without giving the player much combat agency. It is not interested in empowerment. The point is to keep nerves frayed long enough that even finding a place to breathe feels like a victory.
